I am attending the BCAMT math conference.
Reflection:
I attended the DESMOS educators event and enjoyed learning about how desmos activities can be used in the classroom to create a collaborative and interactive lesson. I particularly liked their emphasis on formative assessment and how their platform can be used to give feedback to students which is a cornerstone of modern best-practice assessment.
I also attended the talk given by Pam Harris on changing the way we think and teach about mathematics. She talked a lot about how we think about simple mathematics and how that can impact our thinking of more complicated topics down the road. The way this was framed was through "The Development of Mathematical Reasoning" chart which displayed how counting strategies has a knock-on effect for something like function reasoning.
