Our group didn't see too many students in a state of flow in the classroom in our practicums. We thought that there were a few high achieving students who may have been in a state of flow because they had the level of competency that allowed them to tackle material, thus riding the fine line that is required for someone to be adequately challenged but not so challenged they need to have laddering or more instruction to continue. As for state of flow in our own lives, it was a similar story. We found that experiencing a state of flow was a rare experience, if not having ever experienced it at all. There was some talk about whether some members of our group have experienced flow while playing sports as there can be a flow like state that sports players may experience while they repeatedly practice drills, gradually getting better and better, reducing times and increasing accuracy of the drill. I like this example because it demonstrates the fine line of challenge and skill perfectly. At any point of doing this kind of practice, you are exactly challenged by increasing your accuracy/skill/time by the precise amount of skill you possess. I think this is a good way to look at how we should think about other activities and how we can gear our practice to engage in a flow like state.
